as an avid museum visitor, i can totally identify with julien spianti‘s work. not only because some of the situations are set there, but rather because of his expansion of an art historical process i often find myself part of when visiting museums. his juxtaposition of anonymous figures with familiar surroundings contain more than just the traditional references, it provides a glimpse of some differential existence; his method incorporates a collage style which further emphasises this notion. the uncertainty and ambiguity of his works contribute to that tension which is often the result of looking from the present into the past or deciphering dreams from reality. the figures find themselves in disassociated, deconstructed spaces where this other-worldly transposition become an aesthetically balanced composition through which spianti expresses his particular philosophical position.
