literally. because yesterday’s wind down of the MBFWA FW15 could not have made a better choice than mirte van wijngaarden. what makes her mens collection so relevant is the masculine/feminine connection that has also surfaced as a prevailing theme in this year’s international fashion weeks. although strength and masculinity are celebrated, the fabrics are used in a sensitive manner despite their defensively raw styling to also reveal a new androgynous power. the soft leathers and deconstructed wool suiting makes for a superbly well constructed urban warrior collection which not only confronts the insecurities of the ‘state of the nation’ but prepares for a global if not galactic future. altogether elegant and wearable, complemented with accessories by janiek koppe and marianne moerman.
