the metaphorical process of embroidery and the sum of our parts of being are delightfully connected with the threads that ana teresa barboza crafts together. her work seeks to unravel the mysteries of our internal struggles and our environments; often introducing a menacing element. on the otherhand more subtly, the landscapes that explode into a chaos of threads shows the poignant fragility of existence. ana teresa also touches on the concept of the metamorphological qualities in (human) nature; exciting thoughts and dreams of otherworldliness. all together her work fluctuates between commentary of what is and contemplation of what could be. pulling the threads of the soul from the body is her expression for a search of meaning and identity. i always find this theme of great interest and it certainly heightens the contextual validity in her embroidered collages tremendously.
