lars stephan‘s portrayal of himself in a natural (au natural) context does more than investigate identity. his selfies actually breach a gap between the self and nature; emphasising the place and power of each separately and together. personally, the work appeals to me on a different and poetic level; like a satyr or nymph, lars occupies a space in a seemingly untouched environment - connecting with an ancient identity which we have long forgotten and still yearn for. this paradise lost narrative is even more powerful in his blurred images where they seem so beautifully symbolic of an archetypal unconsciousness.
