there are so many great jewelry designers that focus on the precious metals and stones that have dominated our traditions of adornment. Value, status and all those historical classifications certainly have their place, but what makes liisa Hashimoto‘s work interesting, is her focus. the replacement of precious stones and metals with precious ideas and imagination, brings a different but equally important emotive quality to her work. common sentiment about robbing our planet of it’s livelihood in the search for its minerals and other resources may have opened the door to many changes in our value systems, but as long as our aspirational models uphold the traditional concepts of status and achievement, it will remain a slow one. to me the democratisation of objects of value is an interesting subject but i still believe that to keep emotional economics afloat, this kind of preciousness is of great and undeniable value.
