the focus of stuart haygarth‘s work has shifted… from the singular everyday disposable to the super-plural collection of the everyday disposable. along with it the emphasis of his work has expanded from artful invention to a wider commentary on modern society and its wasteful habits. spectacle glasses, frames, water bottle parts, smashed car mirrors and washed up flotsam form part of his installations; almost like ‘the found object exploded’ his work features items from everyday life and is given another thought and meaning through the transformation of light into practical and spectacular pieces of profound scale. much later for up-cycling, this goes beyond a mere design event. haygarth’s striking pieces are what illuminates our behaviour, our sentiments and makes us think about it.
