as far as fashion experiences goes, most collections have a strong visual content and exist nearly independent of the wearer. what makes maiko takeda‘s work so brilliant is exactly the opposite. the ethereal quality she incorporates into her work has a lot to do with experience and illusion. two strong collections of accessories emerged - cinematography and atmospheric reentry. the latter uses a transparent film and perspex to create near digital pieces with a serious futuristic element, the other collection has a more nostalgic feel in that it casts a dreamy image on the wearer which is reminiscent of old film stills and prints. instead of just manipulating fabric and fit, maiko experiments with the space in between the wearer and the clothing; bringing a new experience to a simple object and shifting the paradigm of wearing into a different dimension without sacrificing sihouette.
