the innocence of the fifties have always had a certain black and white charm to me; and few express the elegance of the time better than georges dambier. his signature street photography has a sophisticated ease and eloquence combined with a lighthearted flair that few photographers manage without becoming too stylized and severe. compositionally strong, it’s mostly his out-and-about style that brought a new glamourous personality to fashion’s sterility in his photographs for elle. even though his style was once revolutionary and has now migrated to a more nostalgic place, it still retains every shred of chic it ever had…
