i’ve been watching the work of philippe bestenheider with great interest for some time now. at first i was intrigued by his reconstitution of elementary shapes and patterns but the deconstructed aesthetic has recently made way for a more mature expression of form and line which i greatly admire… reminiscent of a mid-century nostalgia, the heta chair’s simple light framed base is in contrast to its sophisticated sling-form seat and back in tailored leather, producing an utterly flattering and sophisticated silhouette. i’ve always been a fan of all types of wing back chairs and both the hand-caned lui5 models and this new leather heta chair, which is being introduced by frag at salone del mobile in milan, are an intelligent and much needed update of a classic… a beautiful addition to the modern arsenal of furnishings available to designers.
