swiss artist andy denzler‘s paintings reflect a nostalgia turned digital in the way that he incorporates a technique of glitch like elements in his work. the images threaten to become video like stills; the anticipation of movement is so vividly portrayed that one is almost dumbfounded at its abruptness. the suggestions of our preoccupations with audio visual media is strongly evident even though most of the works contain more sentimental and tender imagery resulting in a strange quiet intimacy, like pressing pause on a home video. it is this interruptive quality that makes the work so dynamic; the mimicking of the visual distortions and allusions to broadcasting allows the works a traditional painterly embrace of our contemporary multi-media art-scape.
