up until recently most of what i know about rio de janeiro was thanks to vic muniz‘s wasteland project and the fernando meirelles movie cidade de deus, but as the most visited city in the southern hemisphere and recent recipient of the Unesco world heritage site accolade in the category for cultural landscape, i suppose it justifies a closer look. after all it boasts one of the new seven wonders of the world: the giant statue of christ the redeemer, will be hosting the 2014 fifa soccer world cup, and for the first time in south america host the 2016 olympic games. it seems set for a busy time…
fashion wise it has been shedding a bit of its bikini-ness to make room for more serious style. hosting it’s own fashion week and together with sister city são paulo and buenos aires, euromonitor believes that rio has been changing it’s spending habits and that south america has become quite the darling for european luxury brands again.
