luc besson’s rather gentrified 80’s view of the paris underground is just the retro fix one needs. the mid decade showdown subway starring christopher lambert in his prime and isabelle adjani has some spirited shots and although seriously predictable some quirks really hit the spot. adjani sports brimfull views of ysl shoulder pad regimes to the trench pop revival; it reminds me of the inspirational days of jpg. i just love the bit where helena (adjani) ruins mr prefect’s dinner party- not exactly a cinematographic moment but memorable none the less.
